Research Proposal

Title: Analysing the global trends in national and transnational migration of labour.

Research Problem

Since times unknown people have been moving over large land masses for fulfilment of their primal needs such as food and water. In modern societal context these primal needs have taken the guise of employment (which ensures a human’s basic survival); and labour has been migrating both nationally and trans-nationally in search for a sustainable employment. The subject of the report is to study such migratory populations and endeavour to answer the various rising concerns associated with such groups.
The study specifically analyses the migratory population in India (internal migration), China, United States of America, and specific nations in Europe and tries to unearth the various reasons behind such migration and its impact both on the natives of the place where the immigrants have settled, and on the homeland of the emigrants.

Research Objectives and Questions

The key objective of the report will be to analyse the impact of the migratory population on the natives of the land. The study will specifically focus on certain countries where the impact of immigrant population has been pronounced. Mentioned below are some of the key objectives of the report:
1.       To analyse the immigrant population in various countries and unearth the reasons for their migration, current employments and impact on the land that they have migrated to.
2.       Impact on culture, trade and lifestyles of the native population where the immigrants are finally settled.
3.       Impact on native homelands of the emigrants.
Some of the questions that the research poses and strives to answer are stated below:
1.       Why has a specific sect of people migrated over a large expanse, enduring hardships?
2.       Are there any specific benefits/adversities occurring to the homeland of the emigrants or the land of immigration?
3.       Are there any conflicts between the natives and the immigrants? If yes, have these conflicts affected trade or culture?
4.       Have these conflicts been resolved? If yes, how?

Summing up, this report focuses on two points primarily. First, reasons for immigration of population and secondly, the impact such population has on trade and culture.

Key Literature

The researcher will refer to various works of literary, cultural and business significance relating to the context. Various data and statistics will also be analysed to make a factual representation in this paper. Also works of other established researchers will be referred to, in order to consolidate all points required to make the analysis and recommendations.

Methodology

The researcher intends to use secondary data which is available on the internet as well as published works of various authors, researchers and organisations. Although conducting surveys among target population would have been the ideal method to conduct research, limitations of time and mobility require adopting secondary data sources which are relatively easier to access.
The researcher intends to do a qualitative analysis of the gathered data thus, gathering meaning out of objective information.

Research Time Table

The research will be conducted over a period of 2-3 months (to be completed within the deadline submission time for this report). It is estimated that once all data is gathered, it will be relatively easier and less time taking to analyse and interpret it.
The researcher’s familiarity with the subject matter will also help in speeding up the time taken for the study as well as providing the researcher with an advantage in making a sound analysis.
